  • HP Compaq nc6140

HP’s new nc6140 has a whole host of built-in wireless capabilities, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and EV-DO cellular broadband. Making use of these technologies is no problem even for a novice user, due to the helpful Wireless Assistant utility.

EV-DO is definitely the top benefit of this machine, enabling you to access the internet wirelessly using cell phone signals. EV-DO cellular broadband service is offered by Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless in the US, and by Bell and Telus in Canada.

At almost four hours, battery life is better-than average, but it’s important to remember that keeping the EV-DO connection on can take a big bite out of this, reducing it by almost half.

The nc6140 weighs an even six pounds, which is quite lightweight for a notebook with a 15″ screen, but doesn’t compete travel-wise with some of the smaller machines on the market.
